Abstract:
Chinese investments in Canada are expected to grow in the coming decades, most prominently from Chinese state-owned enterprises. The saga of the failed BHP Billiton bid for Potash Corp., which was heightened by the potential involvement of a Chinese state-owned enterprise, carries several lessons for Canada as it prepares to deal with a growing number of large, and potentially controversial, acquisitions by state-owned and other enterprises.
