Global Canadians - Photo Contest 2009
About the Contest
The Global Canadians Photo Contest 2009 aimed at capturing and presenting images of Canadians participating and contributing globally, in business, sports, cultural, social and family activities outside Canada.
This contest was open to all Canadian citizens or legal residents of Canada, currently living anywhere in the world.
The prizes – one business class return ticket between Vancouver and Beijing - was made available through the generous support of Air China, plus a total of C$1000 cash.

Contest Procedure
The contest website was open for submission from March 17 to May 20, 2009.
The contest received a total of 94 submissions from all over the world. From among these, 82 photos that met the contest criteria were displayed anonymously on the CanadiansAbroad.ca website, and viewed and rated by the public.
The 12 finalists, chosen by the public, were announced on the CanadiansAbroad.ca website on May 31, 2009.
An internal jury made a unanimous selection of the winners on June 11, 2009.
Contest Results
First Prize (one Air China’s business class return ticket between Vancouver and Beijing plus C$600 cash)
Winner: Bryan Day (Singapore)
Title of Photo: Canadian Association of Singapore Ice Dragons
Story of Photo: Singapore, April 2008. Mites league boys and girls celebrate the end of the their first ever hockey season. Three players carry on the tradition of their great granddad, NHL Hall of Famer Hap Day, Toronto Maple Leafs captain, coach, G.M. and 7 time Stanley Cup winner.
Second Prize (C$300 cash)
Winner: Richard N. Liu (China)
Title of Photo: A Gold Medal Moment for a Canadian Family

Third Prize (C$100 cash)
Winner: Michelle Morrison (Australia)
Title of Photo: Fall Leaves
Story of Photo: Among the wattle and gum native to southern Tasmania, Australia my family enjoys growing trees native to Canada for wholesale and retail sale. Canadian maples create a beautiful avenue up our driveway taking their place as a stunning example of Canada’s natural beauty and a playground for our young son. It was taken in April 2007.
