Due to decreased demand, Honda-affiliated seat manufacturer Tachi-S has decided to close its plant in Ontario and use an idle plant nearby owned by Johnson Controls, one of its business partners. Tachi-S’s Ontario plant made seats for SUVs, one of the hardest-hit sectors in the current auto sales downturn. Although it is closing its factory, Tachi-S will continue to operate in Canada.
Wescast Industries Signs Contract with Japanese Turbocharger Manufacturer
Brantford-based Wescast Industries, a supplier of cast iron exhaust manifolds for passenger cars and light trucks, announced that it has recently been awarded new business worth approximately $80 million in annualized revenues. The new business includes contracts with major European and Japanese turbocharger manufacturers, new business to support Wescast’s emerging stainless steel market segment, as well as incremental and replacement business globally.
Mitsubishi Motors Signs MoU with the City of Vancouver for Testing of i MiEV Electric Vehicle
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation of Japan subsidiary, Mitsubishi Motors Sales of Canada, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of BC, the City of Vancouver, BC Hydro, and Mitsubishi Canada Limited for feasibility testing of the zero-emissions i MiEV electric vehicle. Under the terms of the agreement, one car would be added to BC Hydro’s fleet of vehicles and one to the City of Vancouver’s fleet for demonstration and evaluation purposes. The agreement also allows for the addition of more cars as they become available. The i MiEV will be launched in Japan this summer.
