The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is looking for a Project Manager, Networks and Current Affairs, to be based in Vancouver.
Reporting to the Vice President, Knowledge and Research, this manager is responsible for managing and supporting the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada’s networks, specifically Canadian participation in ABAC and PECC, and working with senior management to serve as the coordinator and focal point for country-specific advisory groups. This role is also responsible for managing the production of the Canada Asia News Service, contributing to and editing of other Foundation publications as needed, in addition to supporting senior management on responding to requests related to commentary and analysis of current affairs across Asia.
Major Responsibilities:
• Monitors current affairs across Asia on daily basis and monitors regional issues, including those related to FTAAP, APEC, ASEAN, TPP, East Asia Summit and of interest to ABAC Canada and PECC Canada.
• Provides research and issue briefings on current affairs, as requested.
• Provides recommendations on how to advance issues within ABAC, PECC and other APF Canada networks.
• Coordinates between ABAC, PECC members and APF Canada and provides staff support to Active Members of ABAC and to the Chair and Vice-Chair of CANPECC, including APF Canada’s country-specific advisory groups.
• Helps to further develop APF Canada networks of experts, specifically from the business community, and maintains up-to-date information about network participants and APF Canada partners across Asia.
• Manages the production of the Canada Asia News Service and contributes and supports the production of other APF Canada publications. This includes contributions to web content and editing of Foundation publications as needed.
• Prepares project reports, action plans and develops and monitors budgets.
• Supervises and guides Post Graduate Research Fellows, as needed.
• Manages partnership events and coordinates meetings, consultations, oversees report writing processes, as requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledgeable about contemporary Asia Pacific developments, preferably with sound knowledge of the work of networks like ABAC, APEC and PECC
2. Ability to produce analytical reports and briefs on key political, economic and social issues related to Asia and reflect on how they may affect Canada
3. Familiarity with policy research and/or policymaking
4. Excellent project management skills
5. Strong interpersonal, intercultural and networking skills
6. Strong communication skills including public speaking and writing
7. Experience in managing staff.
8. Ability to multi-task and work under pressure and with short deadlines
9. Ability to work independently on specific files and master new topics quickly.
10. Interest in advancing an informed understanding of Canada-Asia relations
11. Ability to travel to Asia at least 4 times a year.
12. Entrepreneurial
13. Excellent computer skills (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook) / Knowledge of Razor’s edge would be an advantage.
14. Competency in English and one Asian language, preferred.
