Ottawa-based C-COM Satellite Systems Inc. completed the integration of its iNetVu mobile antenna systems with Shin Satellite’s IPSTAR broadband satellite, a satellite broadband system in Asia. The IPSTAR satellite, with a capacity of over 45 gigabits-per-second (gbps), offers high speed, two-way broadband communication to subscribers in Australia, Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, New Zealand and Vietnam. The Malaysian, Filipino and Indonesian gateways are now under construction. C-COM Satellite Systems Inc.

Donica Pottie, Canadian Ambassador to Cambodia, and Im Chhun Lim, Cambodia’s Minister of Land Management, Urbanization and Construction, signed an agreement under which Canada will provide approximately $7 million to fund land management programs and training for Cambodian land management officials. The funds will be managed by the Canadian International Development Agency.

The Canadian Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and the Cambodia Mine Action Authority will co-host a mine action conference titled ‘Mine Action: Implications for Peace and Development’ in Phnom Penh from March 12-14. Participants from Southeast Asia, Europe and the Middle East will meet to discuss the ‘experiences of mine-affected states, the needs of survivors and international cooperation on mine action.’

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) announced funding to support 25 development projects led by Canadian colleges and institutes. These projects, funded by the Canadian College Partnership Program (CCPP) of CIDA will address Canada’s aid development priorities, in particular poverty reduction and the promotion of human rights. Of the 25 projects, 18 are in Africa, three in the Americas, three in Asia and one in Eastern Europe.

Vancouver-based FreshXtend Technologies Corporation, a provider of natural life extension technology to the fresh produce and flower industry, announced that its subsidiary, Pacific Rim Marketing Ltd., has signed a licence agreement with MB Inc. to market FreshXtend Freshspan technology in Asia. The five-year agreement covers Taiwan, China, Hong Hong, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and the Philippines. FreshXtend holds the rights to shelf life extension technologies in the fresh produce industry.
