Canada's Secretary of State for Asia Pacific to Visit Indonesia and East Timor

Raymond Chan, Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific), will visit Indonesia and East Timor from April 10 to 17. Mr. Chan said that the last year has been “a period of transition in Indonesia and East Timor; one that has seen political developments of historic significance…my visit is intended to assure our partners of Canada’s ongoing commitment to support human security and economic development in the region.” Mr. Chan will visit Yogyakarta to to inspect a Canadian International Development Agency funded development project. In Jakarta he will meet with senior government representatives, local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and Canadian and Indonesian business leaders. In East Timor, he will meet East Timorese religious and political leaders and will hold discussions with members of the United Nations Transitional Administration.
