CIDA Offers Support for National Languages Project in Sri Lanka

Minister of International Cooperation, Beverly J. Oda, announced that the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will contribute C$5.6 million to support the Sri Lanka government’s efforts to implement its Official Languages Policy so that Sri Lankans can receive government services in their own official language. Canada’s development program in Sri Lanka focuses on the promotion of equitable and sustainable economic growth, and emphasizes the important role of human rights in reducing poverty. The Sri Lanka government has identified the promotion of official languages as a key component in these efforts.
