Canada and Korea to Restore Beef Market Access

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and International Trade Minister Ed Fast announced that access to Korea’s beef market, which had been suspended in 2003 due to concerns about mad cow disease, will be restored for Canadian cows under 30 months of age. South Korea will now begin its domestic process of submitting the proposed import health requirements, which includes public consultations and legislative approval. The Canadian Beef Export Federation estimates that the agreement could mean more than C$30 million for Canadian producers by 2015.
