Canada Announces New Partnerships with China at Second Leaders Meet

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced new joint partnerships with China after successfully concluding the second Annual Leaders’ Dialogue with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. New joint initiatives include: continuing exploratory discussions towards a comprehensive trade agreement between Canada and China; issuing a Joint Statement on Climate Change and Clean Growth; committing to fully implementing the Paris Agreement; promising increased collaboration on agriculture, tourism and student exchanges; and, maintaining dialogue on human rights in the context of national security and regional issues, including North Korea and Myanmar. Both countries will co-chair the inaugural meeting of the February 2018 Canada-China Joint Committee on Culture in Ottawa.
