Canada’s Agriculture Minister on Trade Trip to China

Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay and Deputy Minister Chris Forbes will travel to China today for a trade mission aimed at promoting Canadian agricultural trade. According to a report in iPolitics, the Federal Government is under increased pressure from export dependent agriculture groups who say they need improved access to the Chinese market, arguing that country's growing middle class is a critical market for pork, beef and grains. During this trade mission, MacAulay's team will reportedly meet with several Chinese e-commerce companies including Alibaba, HeMa, and GFresh to discuss in-market opportunities for Canadian food products.
