Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Meets with Counterparts From Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird met with Marty Natalegawa, Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, during meetings at the 44th ASEAN Regional Forum and Post Ministerial Conference in Bali, Indonesia. The two discussed human rights, governance, counterterrorism and combating migrant smuggling. Mr. Baird also met with Takeaki Matsumoto, Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, and reiterated Canada’s assistance with recovery efforts following March 11, 2011 disaster. He also met with K Shanmugan, Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law, to discuss regional architecture, the Asia-Pacific Gateway and the economic opportunities for Canada and ASEAN. Mr. Baird also met with Kim Sung-Hwan, South Korea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade to discuss how to strengthen people-to-people ties, regional security and trade issues.
