MDA Deploys Surveillance Service for the Royal Australian Air Force
BC-based MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA), a provider of advanced information solutions, announced that it has conducted its first Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) flight for the Royal Australian Air Force – four months after the contract was awarded. Flight operations are now officially underway from the Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan. The service will support Australian forces by providing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance information directly to ground commanders in real time. Currently serving Canada (operations started in January 2009) and Australia, MDA operates a full turnkey multi-payload surveillance mission facility in Kandahar and a complete flight training facility in Suffield, Alberta.
