Quebec Office Opened at High Commission in Malaysia

The Canadian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has opened a Quebec office at the Commission. Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik noted that it reflected Canada’s, and in particular Quebec’s, confidence in Malaysia despite the economic crisis affecting the country. He said that “with Quebec being the home of so many Canadian high technology industries, the establishment of the Quebec office here will no doubt play an instrumental role in bringing greater participation by Canada in Malaysia’s industrial development in the future.” Quebec’s transport minister Guy Chevrette said that the main purpose in opening the office was to promote closer relations between Quebec and Malaysia through mutual cooperation and development of bilateral trade. Quebec companies already in Malaysia include Bombardier, CAE Electronics, and Alcan-Alcom.
