Alberta-based Edgeworth Properties Inc. announced that it has established a new office and a marketing team in Cebu, the Philippines, to attract investors in its real estate property in Alberta. It will also set up offices and marketing teams in Malaysia and Singapore by October. Edgeworth Properties is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Edgeworth Ventures Inc., a US company that purchases land in Canada, and divides it into parcels for sale.

Australia’s BHP Billiton has informed the Surigao joint venture, made up of Edmonton-based Mindoro Resources Ltd. and Vancouver-based Panoro Minerals Ltd., that it is no longer interested in developing the Agata nickel laterite project. At the same time, Surigao joint venture signed a non-exclusive confidentiality agreement on the Agata project with SR Metals Inc., a mining company in the Philippines. The Agata project is located at Surigao Gold District of the Philippines. The confidentiality agreement allows SR Metals Inc. to undertake due diligence on the Agata project.

Calgary-based precise global positioning system provider (GPS) NovAtel Inc. announced that it has opened a regional sales office in Sydney, Australia. The office will manage business development and sales for New Zealand, Australia, India and the Philippines. Rod MacLeod has been appointed as the regional sales manager of the new office. NovAtel is a designer and supplier of high-precision GPS and other positioning components and sub-systems employed in many areas mostly in the aviation, mining, surveying and mapping, marine, defence industries and precision agriculture.

OceanLake Asia Private Ltd., a subsidiary of Toronto-based OceanLake Commerce Inc., which provides mobility enabling products, announced that its partner Datapax Inc. a mobile applications provider in the Philippines, has signed an agreement with Smart Communications, a subsidiary of telecommunications carrier, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. Smart Communications will market OceanLake’s ‘Mobile Gateway’, a product that allows Internet-enabled cell phones to access the Internet and email, to its 20 million users. Smart Communications will offer the product under the name ‘Smartsurf.’

Edmonton’s Mindoro Resources Ltd. announced it has signed a joint venture agreement with Medusa Mining Limited, of Australia, on Mindoro’s Apical gold project in Mindanao, Philippines. Medusa may earn a 70% interest by taking the project either to production or to feasibility. Mindoro and its private Philippine partner would each retain a 15% interest. The Apical Project comprises approximately 2,084 hectares and is located in the provinces of Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur.

OceanLake Asia Private Limited, a subsidiary in which Toronto-based OceanLake Commerce Inc. holds a 40% interest, announced that it has entered into a commercial alliance with Datapax (Phils.), Inc., a Philippines-based developer of mobile enterprise applications. Under the terms of this alliance, Datapax will leverage its presence and relationships in the mobile and wireless sectors to market OceanLake’s suite of services to mobile operators across the Philippines. OceanLake’s Mobile Gateway and WPMail mobile push mail products are part of a suite of services for mobile carriers.
