Ottawa-based International Datacasting Corporation, a provider of advanced solutions for the distribution of broadband multimedia content, announced that it has received orders valued at over US$70

Ottawa-based Bridgewater Systems Corp., which provides mobile personalization services, announced that Global Mobile, a 4G operator in Taiwan, is deploying the Bridgewater Service Controller and Policy Controller to deliver mobile multimedia services to consumers and enterprises. The solutions are being delivered in collaboration with CommVerge Solutions, a network services company in the Asia Pacific region.

Toronto-based Silvermet Inc. a producer of zinc, lead, and other by-products from the recently acquired assets of Metox A.S. in Turkey, announced the signing of a Heads of Agreement with Korea Zinc Company Ltd., a zinc smelting and processing company. Under the agreement, Korea Zinc will complete a private placement into Silvermet of $3.0 million at $0.10/share and the companies will form a technical committee for current and future operations.

Toronto-based Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited announced the purchase of a 15% interest in Alltrust Insurance Company of China for approximately US$66 million, subject to final approval by the Chinese Insurance Regulatory Commission. Shanghai-based Alltrust provides a full spectrum of primary insurance products and services in China, including property insurance, liability insurance, surety bonds, short-term health insurance, accident insurance, motor insurance and reinsurance.

Burlington-based IPICO Inc., a radio frequency identification (RFID) solution provider, announced that Kernex Microsystems (India) Ltd. will deploy a RFID and anti-collision system for railway cars using IPICO’s IP-X based UHF passive tags and readers. Kernex is a technology company focused on the development and implementation of  automated systems for Metro Sky-Bus Urban Transportation System, Advanced Railway Signal Systems and other safety systems. IPICO produces smart labels and tags based on the IP-X communication protocol.

Toronto-based Canasia Power Corp., a private power developer with projects in India, has contracted China National Electric Equipment Corporation (CNEEC), a Chinese government-owned engineering, procurement and construction company, to build its Jawaharpur Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in India. CNEEC will design, engineer and build the more than $1 billion 800MW to 1320MW clean-coal technology plant, in Etah, in the State of Uttar Pradesh.

A Canada China Environmental Forum will be hosted by TLI-The Mandarin School & The Summerhill Group in partnership with Ontario Centres of Excellence, the Canada China Business Council, Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Harmony Foundation of Canada and Home Depot in Toronto on June 12, 2008. The issues addressed at the forum include: how to be competitive and innovative in solving Canada’s environmental challenges, how to be a global leader in exporting our environmental expertise and technology and how to nurture positive environmental collaboration with China.

Toronto-based Patheon Inc., a global provider of drug development and manufacturing services to the international pharmaceutical industry, announced the establishment of a Japanese subsidiary based in Tokyo. Patheon K.K. will operate from a newly established business office located in the Nihonbashi district of central Tokyo and will support Patheon’s business requirements in the region. Patheon Inc. operates a network of 10 manufacturing and six development facilities in the US, Canada and Europe, serving a customer base of 270 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Toronto-based Microbix Biosystems Inc. has been granted a patent by China’s State Intellectual Property Office for its Virusmax technology which enables egg-based vaccine manufacturers to increase the amount of influenza vaccine they produce each year. Virusmax already has patents in Canada, the US, India and Australia. Microbix specializes in developing proprietary biological technologies, including biotherapeutic drugs, vaccine technologies and animal reproduction technologies.

Hayashi Telempu of Japan, a manufacturer of automotive carpeting, will double capacity at its new plant in Ontario to meet demand in Canada. The C$10-million plant started up in late 2007 and currently supplies carpeting for 260,000 vehicles per year to Toyota Canada and Honda Canada. Due to the Japanese auto industry’s growth in North America, capacity will be doubled by 2011.
