Bombardier Transportation announced that it has won an order for 74 Bombardier Movia metro cars from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC).

The National Research Council Canada Centre for Surface Transportation Technology (NRC-CSTT) and three Chinese organizations announced that they have signed four research contracts.

Bombardier Transportation announced that its Chinese joint venture, Bombardier Sifang (Qingdao) Transportation Ltd., has been selected by the Chinese Ministry of Railways to supply 80 Zefiro 380 high speed trains, comprising 1,120 cars, for the country’s rapidly growing high speed rail network. The contract, including 20 eight-car trainsets and 60 sixteen-car trainsets, is valued at an estimated US$4 billion. Bombardier’s share of the contract is estimated at US$2 billion. The first train is scheduled for delivery in 2012 with final deliveries expected in 2014.

Saskatoon-based International Road Dynamics Inc., a highway traffic management technology company specializing in supplying products and systems to the global Intelligent Transportation Systems industry, announced that it has been awarded two contracts for the design and implementation of integrated tolling and traffic management systems in India. The first contract, awarded by Madhucon Projects Ltd., is to set up a tolling plaza and provide an integrated traffic management solution in Tamil Nadu.

Burlington-based IPICO Inc., a radio frequency identification (RFID) solution provider, announced that Kernex Microsystems (India) Ltd. will deploy a RFID and anti-collision system for railway cars using IPICO’s IP-X based UHF passive tags and readers. Kernex is a technology company focused on the development and implementation of  automated systems for Metro Sky-Bus Urban Transportation System, Advanced Railway Signal Systems and other safety systems. IPICO produces smart labels and tags based on the IP-X communication protocol.

Burlington, Ontario-based IPICO Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement with CATS Luhai (Beijing) Investment Co., Ltd. to form a joint venture company in China for the purpose of implementation and management of an advanced integrated nation-wide electronic RFID motor vehicle identification and registration, route identification and toll collection program.
