Abstract

A radical shift in India’s approach in providing energy services is needed, so that the needs of the people, particularly the poor, are met in a less energy-intensive manner. Indian energy policy needs to focus on solutions that are economically efficient, environmentally friendly, and equitable. Energy security can be further assured by reducing energy requirements; reducing dependence on imports; enhancing the use of domestic resources; and expanding the domestic resource base and finding alternative sources of energy.
