    Korea in the 21st Century

    The Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto will host “Korea in the 21st Century,” at the Munk School on June 1 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. The event will feature Dr. Un-Chan Chung, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea form 2009-2010 and former President of Seoul National University.     Will Asia Continue to Lead Global Economic Growth?

    The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is hosting a public forum on June 6 with top-level economists from the Asia Pacific region to explore whether Asia can continue to be the engine of global economic growth.  Topics will include: What will it take for China to move up the value chain? Can Indonesia escape the middle income trap? What is the future of India’s economic reform? What is the US’s motivation behind the TPP and the Asia ‘Pivot’? And, to which specific countries or sub-regions should Canada pay especially close attention? This event will take place at the Morris J.     Toronto Japanese Film Festival
    Toronto, ON
    The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre and Shiseido (Canada) Inc. will host the Toronto Japanese Film Festival (TJFF), a two week showcase of the best of Japanese contemporary cinema in Toronto from June 7 to 21, 2012. This new festival will showcase Japanese films that have been recognized for excellence by Japanese audiences and critics, international film festival audiences and the Japanese Film Academy.     The 24th Annual Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival
    Greater Vancouver, BC
    The Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society will host the 24th annual dragon boat festival starting with the kick-off event “Eye Dotting and Dragon Blessing Ceremony”, at the Dock at the foot of Ontario Street at 2pm on June 10. This is the largest dragon boat festival outside Hong Kong and will be held in the Greater Vancouver Area, BC. For more details, please click here.

    Maritime Security Challenges (MSC) 2012 Conference
    Victoria, BC
    The Fifth Biennial Maritime Security Challenges 2012 Conference will take place at the Victoria Conference Centre from October 1 to 4. Panel discussions will explore topics including human trafficking; developments in aircraft carriers; security issues in the Gulf of Guinea; UAVs, UUVs, and future operations; and UNCLOS and island disputes. This conference is hosted in partnership between Royal Roads University and Maritime Forces Pacific of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Asia-Pacific Centre for Security Studies.     Financing Innovation: Enabling Venture Capital in APEC

    Photographic Expressions of Asia

    APF Canada will co-sponsor a photographic presentation with Simon Fraser University’s David See-Chai Lam Centre for International Communication featuring Dr. Neville Poy and Senator Vivienne Poy. They will present photographs of urban and rural life in China, Hong Kong, Laos, Vietnam, Bhutan, Thailand, and Sarawak with compelling stories.
