  • Asian Leaders' Speaker Series: Hsieh Fu Hua

    The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada will host Hsieh Fu Hua, Chairman of the United Overseas Bank, Singapore for a luncheon on September 26 from 11:30 am-2:00 pm at the Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto. The luncheon marks the official launch of APF Canada's Asian Leaders' Speaker Series. The series will feature Asian leaders representing politics, governments, business, and the arts who will share their visions and experiences with Canadian counterparts.   • Canada, Taiwan and the TPP: Where Do Canada's Interests Lie?

    Hugh Stephens, Senior Fellow, Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, will give a talk on "Canada, Taiwan and the TPP: Where Do Canada's Interests Lie?" on September 29 at an event hosted by the Institute of Asian Research's Centre for Chinese Research at UBC. Mr. Stephens will discuss the ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, with a focus on the possibility of Canada supporting Taiwan's entry.   • ADB's Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific 2014

    Shang-Jin Wei, Chief Economist at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will unveil findings of the Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific 2014 Report, at an event hosted by The Jack Austin Centre, Beedie School of Business, SFU and APF Canada on October 6 in Vancouver. The Key Indicators includes the latest available economic, financial, social, and environmental indicators for regional economies of Asia and the Pacific. This year's report includes a special chapter on Poverty in Asia. Stewart Beck, President and CEO, APF Canada will deliver opening remarks, and Jeff Nankivell, Director General, Programming, Asia Pacific, DFATD, will participate as a discussant.     APF Canada is hosting a conference on October 15-17, 2014 in Calgary entitled ‘Canada’s Asia Challenge: Building Skills and Knowledge for the Next Generation.’ The conference will focus on the need for a concerted national effort to improve the knowledge and skills required for Canadians to succeed in a world where the centre of gravity is shifting towards Asia. The conference will bring together Canadian educators, policy-makers and business leaders from across the country to discuss what is being done, and what initiatives are still needed to ensure that Canadians can effectively navigate the many emerging opportunities arising out of the Asia Pacific region.   • The Pacific Northwest Gateway to Asia: Trade, Energy and Managing the Environmental Challenges

    The Canadian International Council Victoria, in cooperation with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and Royal Roads University, is hosting a one-day conference on "The Pacific Northwest Gateway to Asia: Trade, Energy and Managing the Environmental Challenges" on October 28, 2014 at the Union Club of BC, 805 Gordon Street, Victoria. The conference will explore the potential for the Pacific Northwest Economic Region to expand its profile and role as an integrated regional gateway to and from Asia in light of new trade and investment opportunities resulting from the expected conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and other trade agreements, and the growing Asian demand for energy.
