Education, Culture and Communities

Canada has a rich Asian heritage, with the first Asian immigrants arriving in Canada in the 19th century. Today, hundreds of thousands of Canadians live in Asia and more than 3.7 million Canadian citizens and permanent residents are of Asian descent. A steady flow of foreign students from Asia enroll in Canadian universities, English language schools or other educational institutions in Canada each year. With the rising importance of Asia in the global economy, it is essential that Canadians understand how Asia impacts their daily lives. Understanding and skill development can happen in classrooms, through cultural exchange and promotion, travel and meaningful interaction between Asian and non-Asian communities in Canada. How do we improve our educational links with Asia, expand our cultural literacy and Asia ties and ensure strong ongoing connections between Canada and Asia?
