Vancouver, BC – October 15, 2013 – Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada President and CEO, Mr. Yuen Pau Woo, will accompany His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, on his upcoming State visit to the People’s Republic of China from October 16 to 24, 2013. The Governor General is making State visits to both China and Mongolia at the request of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada.
The Governor General will be joined by parliamentarians and an accompanying delegation of Canadians who will contribute their experiences and knowledge to meetings with their Chinese and Mongolian counterparts. These meetings will serve to deepen the relationships that Canada has developed with both China and Mongolia, with emphasis on commerce, innovation, prosperity, education and culture.
Mr. Woo will be part of the Canadian delegation accompanying the Governor General in Beijing and Shanghai. In Beijing, the Governor General will meet with His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, and will deliver the keynote address at the Canada China Business Council’s 35th Annual General Meeting and Policy Conference. In Shanghai, the Governor General will meet with Canadian students studying in China and witness the signing of an agreement between the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University of Medicine on the establishment of a strategic partnership in medical education and training. In addition, the delegation will attend the closing performance of the National Arts Centre Orchestra’s tour of China, an unprecedented bilateral cultural event for both nations.
