Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada Welcomes David L. Emerson as New Chair

May 29, 2015 -- Vancouver, BC -- The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) welcomes the appointment of the new Chair of the Board of Directors, the Honourable David L. Emerson.

The Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, made the announcement today. Mr. Emerson will be assuming the role of Chair effective July 1, 2015, replacing outgoing Chair, John H. McArthur, who served since 2006.

Dr. McArthur is a world-renowned business educator, an Officer of the Order of Canada, and Dean Emeritus at Harvard Business School. APF Canada is grateful to Dr. McArthur for his collaborative leadership and guidance over the past nine years.

"I congratulate David Emerson on his appointment," said APF Canada President and CEO Stewart Beck. "With his background in finance, industry and foreign relations, David will be an invaluable asset to the Foundation as it works to deepen Canada's engagement with Asia."

Added Beck: "John McArthur is a highly-regarded business academic, global business leader and strategic advisor who has helped us nurture Canada's next generation of thought leaders in Canada-Asia relations. His contributions have provided a valuable legacy and he will be sorely missed."

To recognize Dr. McArthur's remarkable contribution to the work of the Foundation, this year APF Canada launched the John H. McArthur Distinguished Fellowship, a $2-million fund awarded to an accomplished Asia Pacific thought leader from business or academia who will conduct actionable research and elevate the work of the Foundation.
