Alberta Polytechnics Sign Agreement with China’s BYD During Asia Pacific Trade Mission

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), and China’s BYD Company Ltd. (BYD) signed a letter of intent in Beijing as part of the Government of Alberta's Asia Pacific trade mission, to create a certified training course for servicing Heavy Duty Electric Vehicles (HDEVs), including coach buses, garbage trucks, airport service vehicles, courier vans, and industrial-sized trucks. The program will be taught by certified instructors at NAIT and SAIT campuses, or via remote delivery or onsite training. The focus of Alberta’s current trade mission is to grow the province’s capacity for clean technology and renewable energy. BYD is one of China’s largest companies, and specializes in rechargeable battery technologies and HDEVs.
