Blackberry's BBM Moving From Canadian Data Centres to Google Cloud in Asia

Waterloo, Ontario-headquartered BlackBerry is reportedly relocating its BBM messaging service from  on-premises data centres in Canada to a new home in the cloud in Asia. BlackBerry previously entered into a strategic alliance with PT Elang Mahkota Teknologi Tbk, a subsidiary of one of Indonesia’s largest media groups, Emtek, which took charge of maintaining and developing the BBM service. BBM, once only compatible with BlackBerry devices, can now be incorporated as an Application Program Interface (API) in other operating systems, with e-commerce features, payments, games, and videos comprising the BBM ecosystem. Migrating the service to the cloud will allow BBM to accommodate this increase in media consumption by its global users, the company said.
