Two major Canadian fertilizer companies, Agrium and PotashCorp of Saskatchewan, merged in December to form Nutrien Ltd., which is now the largest fertilizer producer in the world. According to Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall, the new entity has committed to establishing its headquarters in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Agrium was previously headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. Wall said recently that Nutrien's executives agreed to increase corporate office positions in Saskatchewan by 15 per cent, to 300. Nutrien now has the capacity to produce more than 25 million tons of assorted agricultural products annually. About 95 per cent of potash is used for fertilizer in agriculture and about five per cent is used in commercial and industrial products.
