Omar Alghabra, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade Diversification, will lead Government of Canada’s first-ever Indigenous Trade Mission to New Zealand between October 8 and 11. Parliamentary Secretary Alghabra’s mission will consist of meetings with business stakeholders and the participation in the World Indigenous Business Forum 2018, which will take place in Rotorua between October 9 and 10. The objective of this mission is to secure more global opportunities for Canada’s exporters and investors, and also to further connect Indigenous businesses around the world with each other. In 2018, the value of merchandise trade between Canada and New Zealand totaled C$1.2 billion. The number of Indigenous enterprises in Canada has grown substantially, from 20,000 in 1996 to over 53,000 in 2016.
