Philippines to Import High-quality Potato Seed from Canada

The Philippine Department of Agriculture and Universal Robina Corp. (URC), one of the Philippines' largest food and beverage companies, have signed a C$127,000 program to boost the potato industry in the country by importing high-quality Granola potato seeds from Canada. The program will connect URC with farmers, and also help them get access to quality seeds, fertilizer, training, and market opportunities. In 2017, potato demand in the Philippines reached 380,333 metric tonnes while local production remained at 116,783 metric tonnes, which resulted in a 69 per cent local supply shortage.
