VANCOUVER, BC – January 4, 2017 – The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) congratulates Marie-Lucie Morin, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of APF Canada, on her Order of Canada appointment.
Morin, who served Canada for 30 years in the Federal Public Service and was Executive Director for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean at the World Bank from 2010 to 2013, was one of 100 new appointments to the Order of Canada announced on December 30, 2016 in advance of Canada’s 150th anniversary year.
The Ottawa, Ontario-based lawyer and director, born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada and cited “for her contributions to advancing Canada’s place in the world and for her professional mentorship.”
“On behalf of the entire APF Canada Board, I extend my sincerest congratulations to Marie-Lucie on her appointment to the Order of Canada,” said Stewart Beck, President and CEO, APF Canada. “Having worked for Marie-Lucie when she was Deputy Minister of International Trade and Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, I can attest that she excelled in her service to Canada and Canadians. As an advisor, ambassador and advocate, Marie-Lucie’s dedication to the future prosperity of this country, particularly in its relationships with the developed and emerging economies of Asia, is second to none and a model to future leaders in both Canada’s public and private sectors.”
Morin was appointed National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister and Associate Secretary to the Cabinet in 2008; from 2006 to 2008 she served as Deputy Minister for International Trade and from 2003 to 2006 as Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. With the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade she completed assignments in San Francisco, Jakarta, London and Moscow. In 1997, she was appointed Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Iceland, a position she held until 2001.
Morin was awarded the Governor General’s 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal. In 2011, she received the Association of Professional Executives of the Public Service of Canada's (APEX) Global Public Servant Award. She was named Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 2012, and has served on a number of boards and advisory committees. She was appointed to the Canadian Transportation Act Review Panel in June 2014. Morin is currently a member of the Board of Génome Québec and APF Canada.
