Asia Connect

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada believes that Asia competence—the knowledge, skills, and experiences required for effective engagement with Asia—is the foundation of a strong and thriving Canada-Asia relationship. APF Canada's Asia Connect program supports Canadian youth in building their own Asia competence through valuable work experience in Asia.

In Phase 1 of the Asia Connect program (2016-17), we provided financial support to 36 Canadian university and college students from seven different institutions. These students completed co-op terms or other work experience programs in nine countries or territories across the Asia Pacific (China, India, Hong Kong, Japan, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand). They gained professional experience in a range of sectors, including: automotive manufacturing, disaster management, education, engineering, financial management, food security, global health, publishing, trade and investment, and many others.

In Phase 2 (2017-2018), we are forging partnerships with the private sector and Canadian post-secondary institutions to open up new work experience opportunities in key Asian markets. Our first Phase 2 initiatives are described below. We will continue to add new initiatives to the Asia Connect program – so check back for updates.
