Support APF Canada

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada has been a leading independent think-tank since it was founded in 1984. In an era defined by globalization, the need for APF Canada has never been greater. An integral part of our mission is to serve as a resource to all who seek to better understand Canada’s relationship with Asia. The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada receives support from an endowment from the Government of Canada and through sponsorship of its research and outreach programs. In addition, we welcome individual and corporate donations to support our activities. The Foundation is a registered charity and can accept tax-deductible donations according to the Income Tax Act.

Your donation will go to support the on-going programs of the Foundation in such areas as researching the unrecognized role and importance of Canadians living overseas and the broader benefits to Canada of developing its role as the Asia Pacific gateway all of North America. Gifts are welcome for general support but can also be designated to support current research projects, programs and fellowships.

Support a Post-Graduate Research Fellow

Each year, the Asia Pacific Foundation offers several recent Masters and PhD graduates the opportunity to work with the Foundation. Our Post-Graduate Research Fellows are leaders in the next generation of Asia Pacific specialists… the people who will be the future policy makers and analysts who craft Canada’s relations with Asia.

You can play a pivotal role in shaping that future by sponsoring a fellowship.

Post-Graduate Research Fellows are based at APF’s Vancouver office for a non-renewable term of one-year. During that time, the Fellows undertake a guided research project, designed to produce a policy paper on Canada-Asia relations. Fellows contribute to the key research projects of the Foundation, and explore new and innovative ways to advance the Foundation’s mission.

“The fellowship gives me the opportunity to connect with some of Canada’s most influential thinkers about Asia. We know that the Asia Pacific region is increasingly important on a global scale, and I want to play a part in moving Canada towards a deeper, more nuanced relationship with Asia,” says Trang Nguyen, a native of Edmonton who recently completed her Masters in International Relations at the Australian National University in Canberra and is the 2009 Erika Heller Post-Graduate Research Fellow.

One-time Donation

Every donation can help to develop programs that broaden Canada’s ties with Asia and expand Canadians’ awareness of the dynamic and sweeping changes that continue to reshape the region.

Monthly Donation

This is an easy and convenient way to help support the Foundation. Your monthly donation will help us plan for the future and ensure we are able to maximize our investment in our program activities.

Gift of Securities

A gift of publicly traded securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds) can be an advantageous way to make a donation to the Foundation. In the 2006 budget, the Federal Government announced that Canadians who donate publicly traded securities to registered charities will not be required to pay capital gains tax on the appreciated portion of the shares’ value.

Planned Gift

You may leave your own personal legacy to the Foundation by making a planned gift. A planned gift is the ultimate expression of your belief in the importance of Canada’s long-term involvement with Asia. Planned gifts help ensure the long-term sustainability of the Foundation. Please contact us for more information about the many ways in which you can incorporate the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada into your estate planning.
