This 2-hour workshop is designed to empower and equip business, workplace and not-for-profit leaders, in developing inclusive cultures where everyone is and feels valued and respected.
We will focus on deepening our understandings of the benefits of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility, and how successful leaders have embraced these principles to successfully communicate with people from widely different backgrounds and life experiences.
In this workshop, you will:
- Understand the business case for EDI
- Understand what EDI is
- Build an inclusion mindset
- Practice inclusive communication
- Identify strategies to become a more inclusive leader
- Be able to articulate an organizational commitment to inclusion and explain why it is important
- Gain comfort discussing aspects of diversity and the way they affect employees’ experience of the workplace
- Understand the difference between individual bias and systemic discrimination
- Understand allyship
Meet Your Presenter: Jenny Bourne, Artery Consulting Ltd.
Jenny Bourne, CCIP™, M.A., B.Ed., BA is a descendant of colonial settlers, raised in the traditional territories of the Wendat, the Haudenosaunee, and the Anishinaabe peoples (colonially know as Newmarket, ON) and came to the Treaty 7 lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy and the Metis Nation of Alberta, Region III by way of Asia, Europe, the unceded Inuit lands of Nunavik, and the unceded lands of the Lkwungen People, also known as the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations communities.
She is an educator who has worked in various roles in public and for-profit education, post-secondary institutions and in not-for-profit sectors across Canada and internationally. Throughout her career Jenny has been an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) champion who has spent decades bringing an EDI focus to all that she does in her professional and personal lives.
Jenny is a Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional (CCIP™), and has completed a Masters of Arts in Cultural Studies, a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and a Bachelor of Education and is passionate about putting her knowledge into practice through her EDI work. Jenny is currently the Senior Program Coordinator for the RWEIT program, and CEO of Artery Consulting Ltd.
