Émile Laplante

Émile is pursuing his Ph.D. in history at Université Laval, focusing on the history of Sino-Canadian relations. He recently completed his M.A. in history from Université Laval, focusing on China’s role in the Vietnam War, which included examining transcriptions of bilateral diplomatic conversations between Chinese and North Vietnamese delegates from 1966 to 1969. In the next phase of his studies, he hopes to demonstrate that Québec missionaries served as intermediaries for the bilateral relationship between Canada and China during the Chinese Civil War. His goal is to gain a deeper understanding of Asian history and make it more accessible for scholars around the world, starting with Québec.
