Philippines

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has grown steadily in the Philippines since March. As of April 9, the country has 4,076 confirmed cases and 203 deaths. Lagging behind other major Southeast Asian countries in testing, the government has imposed the strictest containment measures in the region. Luzon, the biggest island, is under "enhanced community quarantine" until the end of April, while curfews and bans on non-essential travel are in effect throughout the country. The measures are backed by police checkpoints, jail time, and potentially worse responses.
