Canada-China Institute for Business and Development Joins the China Research Partnership, Canada's First China Research Web Portal

VANCOUVER, BC – May 30, 2017 – The China Research Partnership, a collaboration between five leading Canadian institutions dedicated to the study of China, welcomes the Canada-China Institute for Business and Development as an associate member.

Based at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University in Toronto, the Canada-China Institute for Business & Development (CCIBD) aims to build and advance understanding of China through research, innovative educational and training programs, and influential public events. The Institute serves as a centre of excellence for education and knowledge dissemination of China, past and present day, to Canadian business, academics, policy-makers, governments and other stakeholders looking to do business with China and/or to partner with Chinese organizations.

The China Research Partnership, which now tallies 6 partner organizations, is Canada's premier web portal featuring Canadian research, expertise, news, activities and other resources on China. It provides a single platform for the dissemination and sharing of knowledge about China, and is intended as a tool for policy-makers, academia, media, and students interested in China studies. The website features news, analysis, commentary, statistics, reports, event listings, and announcements on China, as well as a database of over 70 experts on China from the six partner institutions.

The China Research Partnership was launched on March 8, 2017, by theAsia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada), in partnership with the Canada China Business Council, the China Institute at the University of Alberta, the Institute of Asian Research at the University of British Columbia, and the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto.

“The China Research Partnership is an innovative new platform designed to increase Canadians’ knowledge and understanding of China, a complex and diverse country with rapidly expanding global power and influence. We are delighted and honoured to have the Canada-China Institute for Business and Development join our ranks of member institutions across Canada that are contributing in unique ways to this vital resource as Canada ramps up its engagement with China.” - Dr. Eva Busza, Vice-President, Research and Programs, Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada

“Some of the controversies and confusion suggest that the knowledge Canadians possess about China is often inadequate, outdated, or biased. As the business relationship between Canada and China has entered into a new era, there is an even greater urgency for putting together pertinent information and research outputs in order to educate the public and inform government policy. CRP will become a critical resource to serve these purposes.”- Dr. Howard Lin, Co-Director, Canada-China Institute for Business and Development
