John Seaman
John Seaman is a Research Fellow in the Center for Asian Studies of the French Institute of International Relations (Ifri), which he joined in 2009. His work focuses on the geoeconomic and geopolitical implications of China’s emergence as a global power and in particular its relations with Europe and the United States. He has conducted extensive policy research on China’s energy transition, technological transformation and industrial policy framework, analyzing specific policy fields such as technical standardization and critical raw material value chains (particularly rare earth elements) within the broader context of China’s strategy.
Mr. Seaman was a non-resident scholar in the Energy & Environment Programme of the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) in Tokyo (2013- 18) and previously worked at the U.S. Mission to NATO. He holds a Master in International Affairs from Sciences Po, Paris, a Bachelor of Arts in International Economics from Seattle University and was a David L. Boren Scholar at the Beijing Center for Chinese Studies (2002-03).
