Journalism Under Attack: The Phenomenon of Fake News in the Philippines and Challenges of Accountability in the New Media
Manny Mogato, a journalist with Reuters in the Philippines and this year's winner of the McLuhan Fellowship, will be presenting on the spread of fake news in the Philippines and how this undermines the news media's role. His discussion comes at a time when human rights and other fundamental freedoms in the Philippines are under the spotlight, and will explore what journalists should do to respond to the threats of fake news and the lack of accountability by purveyors of false information.
