VANCOUVER, BC – JULY 22, 2026 – The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is pleased to announce its four Indo-Pacific Media Fellowship recipients for 2026-27.
The Indo-Pacific Media Fellowship program, with support from the Government of Canada, is part of APF Canada’s new programming in the Indo-Pacific region. It is designed to help Asia-based journalists become better informed about Canada in order to write or broadcast insightfully on the Canada-Asia relationship to audiences in their home jurisdictions.
Indo-Pacific Media Fellows, selected through a competitive process, receive up to C$10,000 each and will spend up to three weeks in Canada researching and preparing their stories.
APF Canada’s 2026-27 Indo-Pacific Media Fellows are:

Ryota Dei from Nikkei News in Japan. Mr. Dei plans to produce a multi-part feature series with data visualizations on the critical pillars shaping the Japan-Canada relationship: defence and Arctic security, food security, resource security at the intersection of Indigenous rights, and climate co-operation. Their series will showcase the convergence of critical policy discussions on an evolving geopolitical Arctic landscape. He is exploring field research opportunities in Ontario, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

Ludwig Federigan from the Manila Times in the Philippines. Mr. Federigan will map Canada’s clean tech and supply chain policies against ASEAN's economic and energy-security priorities through multi-media publications, including a long-form report and two shorter capsule pieces, to inform areas for Canada-Philippines co-operation in critical minerals, manufacturing, and climate-resilient energy systems. He is exploring field research opportunities in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia.

Suwanti from Antara News Agency in Indonesia. Ms. Suwanti will explore key aspects of Canada’s sustainable agriculture industry, including the implementation of agricultural green technology, eco-friendly methods in soybean farming, and the contribution of young farmers in Ontario, to help inform Indonesia's own sustainable farming initiatives. She is exploring field research opportunities in Ontario.

Harizah Hanim Mohamed from Bernama in Malaysia. Ms. Mohamed plans to produce a three-part series examining how Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy is shaping maritime engagement with ASEAN through trade and supply chain resilience, with a focus on sustainable port infrastructure and conservation practices. She is exploring field research opportunities at the Port of Vancouver and the Port of Prince Rupert in British Columbia.
