The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is an independent not-for-profit organization focused on Canada’s relations with Asia. APF Canada is dedicated to strengthening ties between Canada and Asia through its research, education and convening activities as well as building Asia skills and competencies among Canadians, including young Canadians, and improving Canadians’ general understanding of Asia and its growing global influence.
APF Canada is seeking a seasoned Permanent Full- Time Program Manager, APEC Networks. The selected candidate will manage relationships with key stakeholders from the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and Distinguished Fellows networks. This position will report to the Vice-President, Research.
Major Responsibilities
- Manage APF Canada’s support of Canadian members for the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC)
- Build and foster relationships with government officials, senior executives, and staff in global networks, while identifying opportunities to enhance Canadian engagement
- Supervise our APEC Networks Officer and any relevant contractors
- Liaise with Global Affairs Canada as required to advance APF Canada’s mandate
- Lead the work of Canada’s APEC Study Centres
- Co-ordinate APF Canada’s APEC stakeholder engagement, especially with the private sector
- Monitor current affairs relevant to ABAC, PECC, and the Asia Pacific region
- Produce reports, briefings, and policy recommendations for ABAC CEOs and policymakers to advance Canadian interests in APEC and other multilateral forums
- Manage and facilitate international meetings, consultations, and other events with business leaders and senior officials on the margins of ABAC
- Extensive domestic and international travel throughout the year, including travel to support meetings, events, and other program-related activities.
- Manage, research, and prepare policy-relevant reports for ABAC thematic working groups
- Contribute to the work of APF Canada’s research team as needed
- Execute other strategic projects and initiatives designated by the Vice-President, Research
Desired Skills and Abilities
- A master’s degree, or equivalent, in related fields such as economics, public administration, business administration, political science, or international political economy
- At least five years of previous work experience in government, think-tanks, non-profit organizations, or Track 2 organizations
- Previous experience managing stakeholder networks
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to execute on multiple projects concurrently
- Experience working with or in a multilateral organization
- Experience supporting CEOs and other senior officials in the public and private sector, including expertise in preparing and delivering briefings
- Experience managing large-scale projects
- Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills
- Ability to drive outcomes and address challenges effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Self-starter, proactive, and demonstrated ability to work independently
- Proven experience in mentoring and leading
- Experience in event management (asset)
- Previous work experience liaising with and preparing reports required by Canadian government agencies (asset)
- Experience working in Asia (asset)
Eligibility
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of application. The successful applicant will be based in Vancouver on a hybrid work arrangement. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday during standard office hours; however, this position requires frequent domestic and international travel, which may require flexibility to work outside regular office hours and on weekends.
Compensation
The annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000. Depending on a combination of factors, including the candidate's relevant experience and level of expertise, the target pay for this role is no more than the midpoint of this range. APF Canada also offers a comprehensive extended health benefits package, including but not limited to vision and dental care, paramedical services, telemedicine, a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) matching contribution, and an Employee & Family Assistance Program (E&FAP), among others.
