Barrett Bingley

Asia Regional Director, Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada

Barrett Bingley is the Asia Regional Director for the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, based in Singapore.  His research interests include international trade, geoeconomics, and strategic studies. 

Prior to joining APF Canada, Barrett was the Head of Growth Partnerships, APAC, for Economist Impact, the thought leadership, advertising, and events division of The Economist. He was responsible for developing partnerships that drive progress with the largest corporations, governments, foundations, and multilateral bodies in the region, focusing on multi-year engagements with research at their core.

In addition to his work at The Economist, Barrett served as a Board Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, the Chair of the AmCham Hong Kong Trade and Investment Committee, and a Board Director and Committee Chair with the Society of Publishers Asia and Royal Commonwealth Society (HK). 

Barrett was previously the senior policy advisor to the Canadian Foreign and Trade Ministers with a focus on Asia, international trade and security issues.

Barrett is a Commonwealth Scholar and holds a Master’s Degree (with Merit) in International Relations from the Victoria University of Wellington with an Honours Degree in Military and Strategic Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada. He was also Visiting Fellow at the Indonesian Centre for Strategic and International Studies, publishing on trade, piracy, and terrorism in the South China Sea.
