Statement from APF Canada on the Tragic Loss of Life in Tumbler Ridge, B.C.

A message from our annual Canada-in-Asia Conference in Singapore

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and our friends and partners from Canada and across the Indo-Pacific at the Canada-in-Asia Conference 2026 in Singapore this week were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic incident in the British Columbia community of Tumbler Ridge on Tuesday, February 10, as our annual conference was underway.

Shocked and saddened by this heartbreaking news, we collectively extend our deepest condolences to all of those impacted by the horrific shootings. Amongst our Canadian and Asian conference delegates, our hearts go out to the victims and their families, friends, and loved ones whose lives have been impacted by this senseless act of violence. And we extend our condolences to the students and staff of Tumbler Ridge High School, the first responders to this deeply traumatizing incident, and the wider Tumbler Ridge community.

We join Canadians and the global community in grieving with those who this mass tragedy has impacted, as we all come to terms with one of the deadliest school shootings in Canadian history.
