Calvin San is a Knowledge for Democracy Myanmar (K4DM) Initiative fellow working with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada’s Southeast Asia team. He is pursuing a master’s degree in political science at the University of British Columbia and also affiliated with its Institute for Asian Research. His research interests are state-society relations, ethnic politics, and identity politics, with a focus on Southeast Asia.
Su Thet San is a Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs student at the University of British Columbia and a UBC Myanmar Initiative scholar, currently working with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. They hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Yangon and previously worked at a non-governmental organization in Myanmar, focusing on democratization, peace and conflict, and social harmony.
Lynette H. Ong is a Professor of Political Science at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto, a Senior Fellow at the Asia Society’s Center for China Analysis, and a Senior Fellow (non-resident) at APF Canada.
She is an expert on China and Southeast Asia (Singapore and Malaysia). She is the author of three books: Outsourcing Repression: Everyday State Power in Contemporary China, which has won multiple accolades from various disciplinary associations; The Street and the Ballot Box: Interactions Between Social Movements and Electoral Politics in Authoritarian Contexts; and, Prosper or Perish: Credit and Fiscal Systems in Rural China.
Chloe Yeung is a Research Scholar with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada’s Greater China Team. She holds a Master of Global Affairs from the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences from University College London (UCL). Her research interests include Canada-China relations, sustainable trade and development, and gender equality.
Deeplina Banerjee is a Research Scholar with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada's South Asia Team. She is currently a Ph.D Candidate at Western University. Her doctoral research seeks to understand the strengths and limitations of Canada's Rohingya Response Strategy in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Her broader research interests include artificial Intelligence and automation and the future of work, renewable and clean energy, green employment, and Canada-South Asia relations. Gender is a cross-cutting theme in her research.
Dr. Scott Harrison is a former Senior Program Manager, Northeast Asia, with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada.
Yvonne Lau is a Vancouver-based journalist who covers business and culture with an eye on China and Russia. Yvonne’s bylines can be found in Fortune, Forbes, Maclean’s, The Walrus, Broadview, and more. She is part of Room Up Front’s 2023-2024 cohort of mentee photojournalists; a former ambassador for Women LEAD Nepal, and a former co-chair at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
Yvonne was the recipient of a 2023-2024 Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada Media Fellowship.
Fen Osler Hampson, Chancellor’s Professor and Professor of International Affairs, Normal Paterson School of International Affairs, Carleton University
Fen Osler Hampson is Chancellor’s Professor and Professor of International Affairs at the Normal Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) at Carleton University in Ottawa. The former Director of the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (2000-2012), Professor Hampson served as Director of the Global Commission on Internet Governance and is the President of the World Refugee & Migration Council.
He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University where he also received his A.M. degree. Hampson also holds an MSc. (Econ.) degree (with distinction) from the London School of Economics and a B.A. (Hon.) from the University of Toronto. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, he is the author or co-author of 15 books and editor or co-editor of 32 other volumes, with expertise in Canadian foreign policy, internet governance, international organization and negotiation, and conflict resolution and analysis.
