South Korea

South Korea has tallied 39,432 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 556 deaths as of December 9. The outbreak in the country accelerated in late February because of clusters related to a "super-spreader," but came under control relatively quickly. Observers point to comprehensive testing with few restrictions and proactive tracking that alerted people of nearby cases as reasons of success, as such measures made early isolation and treatment possible. While the country managed to flatten the curve in early 2020, it has faced several waves of COVID-19 resurfacing.
