Athena Tong

Athena Tong is a Hong Kong-born researcher working at the intersection of Indo-Pacific security, economic statecraft, and emerging technologies. She is a Visiting Researcher at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Tokyo; a Programme Lead and Research Associate at the China Strategic Risks Institute; and a Non-Resident Vasey Fellow at the Pacific Forum. Her research focuses on Chinese counter-influence operations, digital and data sovereignty, and regional resilience, with particular attention to East Asia. Athena regularly contributes to policy outlets, advises civil society initiatives, and engages public audiences through media commentary and international forums on regional security and governance challenges.
