As of December 9, 2020, Cambodia has confirmed 354 COVID-19 cases and 0 deaths. The government initially downplayed the threat of the disease, but later reversed course to suspend foreign visas, close schools, cancel the Khmer New Year holiday, and ban gatherings of 50 people or more. On April 10, in a move that sparked human rights concerns, the Cambodian parliament adopted the state of emergency law which grants the government sweeping powers to carry out surveillance of telecommunications, restrict freedom of movement, and seize private property.
