The Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) and APF Canada, with strong support from Japan’s leading printing company Toppan Inc. and the Takahashi Kobo Studio, a producer of ukiyo-e for over 160 years, invite Kakehashi Project alumni to an exclusive online event about one of Japan’s most spectacular traditional arts: ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
Flourishing in the 17th through the 19th centuries, ukiyo-e provides images that are not only decorative, but also chronicle the trends, tastes, and events of this critical period of Japanese history. Ukiyo-e remains a vital art form and this event will feature a master artist who will provide a talk, answer participant questions, and a give a virtual tour of an active ukiyo-e studio.
